Approach

MESA finds beauty in simple design solutions that are inspired by site and informed through a collaborative process. We strive to understand our client’s design problems and serve them by offering thoughtful, individualized solutions. MESA architecture is simple, honest, and practical both in design and construction because we believe great projects are aesthetic and use materials, as well as our client’s budgets, efficiently.

Sustainability

MESA designs are particular to place, they work harmoniously with the landscape, and are designed using passive strategies. We believe that architecture and sustainable design are interdependent. From the choice of building materials specified, to building performance, architects have a tremendous impact on the environment and we believe it is our responsibility to design buildings that minimize this impact.

Integrated Project Delivery

Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is a process in which the project team is assembled early on and works collaboratively through all phases of the project. The team consists of the client, architect, builder, sometimes other specialists or consultants.

During the design phase, the team’s collective knowledge informs the design decisions. Clients express their goals for the project, the architect provides a design, and the contractor offers constructibility and cost feedback. During construction, the architect remains engaged to help the builder troubleshoot issues that arise in the field and assist with additional information that may be necessary to keep the project moving forward.

IPD streamlines design and construction, facilitates communication, reduces costs, and ultimately results in the best projects possible. I’ve seen the benefits of IPD as both the architect and general contractor and it is the only process I will recommend to my clients.

Dan’s attention to detail and thoughtfulness are unparalleled. We hired Dan to help us through the entire design and build process and I think his guidance throughout the whole process was worth every penny. Dan helped us select a builder and he helped us with all design choices. Not only did he design an amazing house that accentuates the natural beauty of our property, he created the design plans for our custom front door, dining table, and light fixture.
— Janis Connell
Dan helped guide us through the process of design, listened to our needs, offered suggestions on items we would have never thought of and then came back with a design that perfectly matched what we had in mind. He walked us thoroughly through the plans and then helped us prepare the permit... I would highly recommend Mesa Architecture Studio for any architectural needs you might have.

We are so glad we were referred to Dan with Mesa Architecture. He is so easy to talk to, patient, thorough, understanding, and had an excellent way of looking outside of the box for our remodel needs. We cannot say enough good things about Dan! He completed tasks when he said he would and was always prompt when getting back to us, which is hard to find in Durango. We would go back to Dan time and time again for our architectural needs.
